An International trademark confers the exclusive right to use the mark for the goods or services covered thereby in countriers in which the International trademark is filed.

The priority term to extend a foreign trademark is 6 months.
The duration of a trademark is 10 years, indefinitely renewable for 10-year periods.
It is possible to register as trademarks: all new signs that can be represented graphically, in particular: words, personal names, drawings, letters, numerals, sounds, the shape of goods and their packaging, the combination of color or the color shades, if they can distinguish the products or services of one enterprise from those of another.

A registration of a European Community trademark confers the exclusive right to use the mark for the goods or services covered thereby in all the 27 countries of the same European Community.
The priority term to extend a foreign trademark is 6 months.
The duration of a trademark is 10 years, indefinitely renewable for 10-year periods.
It is possible to register as trademarks: all new signs that can be represented graphically, in particular: words, personal names, drawings, letters, numerals, sounds, the shape of goods and their packaging, the combination of color or the color shades, if they can distinguish the products or services of one enterprise from those of another.
Trademark applications are examined as to registrability per se.
Publication (usually about 6 months from filing) triggers an opposition period of 3 months.

There is no examination and no search as to novelty, and no opposition.
