The duration of a national patent for industrial invention is 20 years from the date of filing the application.

European Patents can be validated in Italy.
To validate a European Patent in Italy it is necessary to file an Italian translation of description, claims and abstract with the Italian Patent and trademark Office within 3 months from the date of the publication of the mention of the grant of the European Patent in the European Patent Bulletin.
The duration of a patent is 20 years from the date of filing the European application.

A European Patent which is revoked may be converted into an Italian utility model.

Filing Requirements
1. Publication number of the European Patent.
2. Power of Attorney signed by the applicant, legalization of the same is not required.

Foreign priority documents can be claimed. The priority term to extend a foreign patent is 12 months.

Annual fees start from the fifth year after filing.
